Crunch … mosaics … and a new playgroup…

This coming week is Neighbourhood House Week!

And in a happy coincidence we are starting up three new programs. Such great timing … we should be claiming that it was all deliberate and such, so … let’s just say the universe operates in fortuitous ways (despite our actual lack of planning and foresight)!?!

If you like, you too can join in on the good luck/happenstance vibe that we’re emanating and come along!

10.30am Monday - Grandparents and Carers Playgroup

$10 weekly for a structured playgroup session, all welcome but ideal for grandparents and carers. Book in online here.

1pm Monday - Mosaics Workshop

$120 for 4 weeks. Learn about tiling and grouting and the same time make some beautiful art. Basic tools and materials provided. I think Lee is starting off with house numbers and/or coasters. Book in online here.

12.30pm Thursday - Crunch (creative lunch)

$15 weekly. Get fed! Get creative! Leanne’s cooking. Lee’s making art. Come along for an hour or so of creative escapism, then get on with rest of your day. Please book in online (so we know who is coming). Just click here.

Mosaics

Feeling creative? Or do you have a tiling project at home and don’t know where to start? Join Lee in the community shed and learn the basics of tiling through mosaics.

Practise cutting tiles, spacing tiles, gluing tiles and grouting … all the skills you will need to complete that kitchen splashback at home … or maybe something even fancier!

Alternatively you can just come along to spend time being creative and making something gorgeous for your house or garden.

$120 for 4 weeks. Basic materials provided.

Starting Monday 13 May from 1-3pm.

Guitar lessons at ACC

Daniel will be offering guitar lessons from the start of Term 2 at Alphington Community Centre.

His classes will be on a Tuesday in the afternoon and evening. You can contact Daniel by email to book in.

Here is a bit about Daniel.

I currently run a new community music project I put together last year called Circle of Guitars. This project allows me to run group guitar sessions and provides an opportunity for community members to get together and play music.

I am a performing guitarist with a passion for music. In the music scene, I have been involved in numerous bands and exciting musical projects (Harmony Universe, Bernadette Novembre, Neo Lilac), performed across Melbourne's highly regarded venues (Melbourne Recital Centre, the Night Cat, Uptown Jazz Cafe), and was invited to play live on air (3AW).

With over 15 years experience as a dedicated educator, I have taught students from diverse backgrounds in different settings such as universities (Australian Catholic University), Secondary schools (Ave Maria College), and in studio's across Melbourne.

By incorporating infectious enthusiasm, relatable personality, and imaginative approaches I have been able to help pupils overcome challenges while discovering their unique voices in music. It is my aim to provide students with a practical knowledge of the instrument as well as an explanation of theoretical components that are inherent within the music.

My teaching method draws from performing experience and industry standard pedagogies. I specialise in popular musical styles including blues, jazz, rock, metal, pop, country and more.

AAA Art

On Friday afternoons we always enjoy our access all abilities art group. It run by Clare and supported by Corrado and Hazel, our wonderful volunteers. We have a super mix of people attending to work on mixed media group and individual projects each week.

Here is one of the latest group pieces, made from paper. It is up on the wall in the Community Shed.
